Meet Miss Anthea

Hi, I'm Anthea Morris. I live in Troy, NY and am the mother of two beautiful children. When I'm not running around after my two little ones, I teach Physical Education and Health everyday at the middle school level and recently completed a Masters Degree in Health from The University of Alabama. I am also the varsity diving coach for the girls and boys at Bethlehem Central HS in Delmar NY. As a child, I was a competitive gymnast and also swam and dove in high school and college (SUNY Cortland). I have always had a passion for health and physical education and couldn't think of a better profession than to teach young children the skills necessary to stay active and healthy, long after they leave my classroom.
I first heard about survival swim lessons when my sister enrolled my one year old nephew. My brother in law had lost a young cousin in a drowning accident, so drowning prevention is an extremely important topic in their household. I was amazed how, in just a few short weeks, my nephew was able to surface and float on his back in the pool unaided. As soon as he could walk, he progressed to learning how to swim first then float then swim again. Today, at 8 years old, he can swim like a fish and is completely independent and confident in the water. Most importantly, he is able to problem solve and save himself should he fall in.
Of course, I wanted the same thing for my own children. Having been a lifeguard, a varsity swimming and diving coach, and a certified Red Cross WSI instructor for many years, I knew that I wanted to undergo the rigorous training requirements to become a Survival Swim Instructor too. Now when people ask me what I do, I can say, "I'm a mom and I teach children how to not drown." What could be cooler than that?!
The water can be an unforgiving environment, but once babies, children, and adults are taught to be safe in and around the water, they can feel confident in their abilities and have tons of fun. In addition to teaching survival swim lessons, I also teach stroke lessons to survival swim graduates and older children, plus adult swim lessons. Please contact me for all of your family's aquatic needs!
